Talismans play a vital role in jujutsu society. They are slips of paper enchanted with symbols that can serve many purposes. A set contains 25 sheets and a writing tool. A creature proficient with talismans can inscribe specific glyphs on them, using different glyphs for different effects. Common uses include the following.
Cursed Energy Sealing
Cursed tools and objects leak cursed energy. To stop this, sorcerers wrap them in talismans to seal the energy away so it can’t be tracked or sensed. As part of a short rest, you can seal an object by wrapping it; the number of sheets needed depends on the object’s grade:
| Grade | Talismans |
|---|---|
| 4th | 1 |
| 3rd | 2 |
| 2nd | 3 |
| 1st | 4 |
| Special | 10 (sealed over a long rest instead) |
A sealed object reads as having no cursed energy, since it no longer leaks any. If the object is a tool, its properties can’t be used while it is sealed. Special-grade objects hold so much energy that their seals wear out; the talismans on a special-grade object must be replaced every 10 years.
Remote Barrier Activation
Talismans can hold a barrier so it goes up away from its caster. When you create a barrier that is not a Domain Expansion, you may store it in a talisman instead: you still pay the normal cost, but the barrier does not form yet. It forms later when a creature carrying the talisman performs an activation method of your choosing.
Other Functions
Talismans are enormously versatile, and a proficient sorcerer can invent new uses for them. Work with your GM to design new glyph functions of your own.
