Cursed Energy

Cursed Energy

Cursed Energy is negative energy and the fundamental of cursed techniques. It can be used through direct manipulation or to power innate techniques. Your Cursed Energy maximum is dependent on your class and your CE score (Wisdom or Charisma). Expended cursed energy is regained on a long rest.

Basic Cursed Energy Manipulation
There are countless applications for Cursed Energy. Your GM can allow characters to use the following to allow you to utilize cursed energy in inefficient, yet simple ways.

  • Cursed Strike. On a hit with an unarmed strike or melee weapon attack, you can spend Cursed Energy up to proficiency bonus to deal an additional d6 necrotic damage per CE.
  • Cursesight. As an action, you can make a Perception check using your CE modifier to sense cursed energy or residuals within 30 ft. The DC equals the target’s CE save DC if the target was trying to conceal their cursed energy. You can track where a residual trail leads and you are aware of whose cursed energy it is if you are familiar.

Short Rest Regain
As part of a short rest you can spend up to half your maximum hit dice to regain 1 CE per Hit Dice spent.

Negative Emotion Recovery
Cursed Energy is produced by negative emotions. If you experience intense negative emotions, you might find your cursed energy responds to it. Your GM can choose to use any of these examples or create their own, regaining your proficiency bonus in CE during one of these situations. These only apply during combat when in genuine danger.

  • If you fail three ability checks or saving throws in one round.
  • If you lose half of your hit point maximum in one instance.
  • If you experience a major injury.
  • If you experience a traumatic event (GM decides) such as the loss of a friend.
