Laplace’s Demon

特技 Feats for this technique → Laplace’s Demon

A thought experiment proposing an intellect so vast it knows the position and momentum of every particle, allowing it to predict the future and recall the past.

Cursed Energy
Starting at 1st level, you can harness your negative feelings into a usable source of energy, called cursed energy. These feelings can be harnessed into attacks or abilities. The number of cursed energy you possess is based on your class, some classes use a modifier that being charisma or wisdom (Player’s choice)

Your cursed energy DC is 8 + user cursed energy ability modifier + proficiency bonus.

Demonic Intellect
Starting at 1st level, you have extreme control of your emotions with a logical mindset allowing you to use Intelligence as your Cursed Energy modifier. You can spend 1 CE as a bonus action to overclock your brain for 1 minute, gaining the following benefits:

  • You can spend 2 CE to take an action as a reaction.
  • You gain advantage on Intelligence checks.
  • You add your Intelligence modifier to AC and Dexterity saves.
  • You gain the 2000 IQ Skill feat.

Future and Past
Starting at 3rd level, you can accelerate your brain to predict the future and past with frightful accuracy.

When you finish a long rest, roll two d20s and record the numbers rolled. You can spend 1 CE as a reaction to replace any attack roll, saving throw, or ability check you make, or a saving throw you force another creature to make with one of these foretelling rolls. You must choose to do so before the roll.

Each foretelling roll can be used only once. When you finish a long rest, you lose any unused foretelling rolls. When you complete a short rest, you can spend 1 CE to gain another foretelling roll. You can only have one foretelling roll from a short rest at a time.

Overload
At 6th level, you have learned to overload the minds of others instead of your own. As an action for 4 cursed energy you can touch a creature and force them to make an Intelligence saving throw. On a failure they take 5d10 psychic damage and are stunned until the end of their next turn, on a success they take half as much damage and aren’t stunned.

Laplace’s Demon
At 11th level, you have learned to push the effects of your technique to their maximum limit. As an action, you can spend 8 cursed energy to enter a state of elevated intellect and foresight for 1 hour. All rolls you make are at advantage and all rolls against you are at disadvantage as you are able to see through the truth of the world in its entirety. As a reaction, you can add your Intelligence modifier to an attack roll, skill check or saving throw made by you or a creature within 5 ft of you.

Domain Expansion: Laplace Threshold
At 18th level you have mastered your technique allowing you to expand your domain. At initiative 20, all creatures of your choice within your domain gain a cumulative -2 penalty to all rolls against you as you begin to see the state of every atom.
While inside the domain:

  • You know all the hit points, conditions, resistances, immunities, and vulnerabilities of all creatures.
  • Invisible creatures are treated as visible to you.
  • Creatures cannot gain advantage against you from being unseen or hidden.

Chaos Theory
describes how a deterministic system can nonetheless exhibit behavior that is impossible to predict: as in the butterfly effect, minor variations between the starting conditions of two systems can result in major differences.

You can spend 4 cursed energy as a reaction to instead of using logic, force a chaotic rush of extremity for 2 minutes. You gain the following benefits for the duration:

  • When you make attack rolls, you treat a creature’s AC as being lowered by your Intelligence modifier.
  • When you miss an attack roll, you have advantage on your next attack against that creature.
  • Roll a D4 at the start of your turn. Depending on the outcome, you must take the following action as a bonus action: (1: Hide, 2: Disengage, 3: Dash, 4: Attack, (one melee attack))

Butterfly Effect
At 3rd level when you use Future and Past, you can instead expend 2 CE as a reaction to replace any attack roll, saving throw, or ability check made by a creature you can see with one of these foretelling rolls. You must choose to do so before the roll. If the target fails the roll, they gain disadvantage on all attack rolls, saving throws, or ability checks until the end of their next turn. If the target succeeds, they instead gain advantage.
